Nimra Presents 3 Papers at ACM CHI26

At CHI 2026, Nimra Ahmed presented three research papers at the intersection of technology, social justice and gender-based violence (GBV):

1. Scattered Searches, Broken Apps, Quiet Repairs: This paper offers a feminist autoethnographic critique of technology and research on gender-based violence. Grounded in personal experience and community work, it examines the challenges of help-seeking and why many digital interventions struggle to support the people they aim to help. You can read the full paper here.

2. If I hadn't seen it that day, I wouldn't be here today: This paper looks at the role of digital awareness content on social media in recognizing gender-based violence. Based on survey and interview data, it shows how people often engage with GBV awareness content and the gradual, emotional process of recognition. Co-authored with Alina Vanessa Brüllhardt, Natalia Obukhova, the full paper is available here.

3.

CaseCompass: This research emphasizes designing sustainable, community-led socio-technical systems for GBV support work, highlighting that sustainability is about care and justice rather than just technical solutions. This collaborative effort with Fachstelle Zwangsheirat received an Honorable Mention Award, along with special recognition for “Research Teams with Inspirational Research Practices.” You can read the full paper here and read more about the recognition here.

In addition to her presentations, Nimra co-organized a successful meetup for the Feminist HCI collective, the "Stitch n Bitch", which was a vibrant space for over 180 participants to connect, share, and reclaim craft as a feminist practice. The event overflowed, taking over the halls and terrace, fostering a sense of community, care, and solidarity.
