University of Zurich ACM-W Student Chapter, Women in Informatics Network Zurich (WINZ), hosted its first major event, the Women in Tech panel, on Friday, November 28th. The panel brought together five inspiring speakers from both academia and industry: Prof. Dr. April Wang (ETH Zurich, Peach Lab), Prof. Dr. Giorgia Ramponi (UZH, ALPI Lab), Dr. Elena Arcari (Senior Data Scientist, BCGX), Dr. Laura Manduchi (Research Scientist, Apple), and Dr. Anastasia Makarova (Research Engineer, Google DeepMind).

Throughout the session, the panelists shared candid insights into their career journeys, discussing the challenges they faced, the mentors who shaped their paths, and the importance of community in navigating the tech world. The conversation highlighted both structural barriers and opportunities, emphasizing how inclusive environments and supportive networks can empower women at every stage, from early education to advanced research.

Students who participated engaged with thoughtful questions, sparking meaningful dialogue about representation and leadership in a male-dominated industry.
