WINZ (Women in Informatics Network Zurich)is a community for women, FLINTA+, and allies at the Department of Informatics. We create safe, creative, and supportive spaces where people can connect, learn, and grow, personally, academically, and professionally.
Our community is built on care, authenticity, and mutual support. We believe that everyone should have a place to show up as themselves, find encouragement, and build confidence in their path through informatics. WINZ hosts both community and academic events, from informal meet-ups to mentoring programs, designed to foster meaningful relationships and strengthen belonging within our department.
Our goals:
- Foster an inclusive and supportive environment that empowers women, FLINTA+ individuals, and allies to thrive in computing.
- Increase visibility and recognition of contributions from women and marginalized communities across research, design, and technology.
- Encourage mentorship, recruitment, and retention of underrepresented groups at all stages — from students to professionals — through community and knowledge sharing.
- Promote equitable learning and working environments that center wellbeing, belonging, and care.
- Strengthen collaboration and communication across individuals, groups, and organizations committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in computing.
At its heart, WINZ is about creating an environment where diversity and inclusion are not just ideals but daily practices. We celebrate the many ways people contribute to computing and technology, and we work to ensure that all voices, especially those from marginalized communities, are heard, valued, and empowered.
