Claudio Tessone, as part of a consortium with 16 partners and 2 associated organizations, has received funding from EU HORIZON for the project “Combating CRYPTO-currency-Facilitated Crime and Terrorism with Interoperable, Trustworthy, AI Enhanced, Collaborative Tools, Improved Information Sharing, Operations and Training for LEAs”. Congratulations!
Claudio Tessone, Professor at the IfI and co-funder of the UZH Blockchain Center, has received funding from EU HORIZON. The consortium of the project “CRYPTOACTION” brings together sixteen partners and two associated organizations from eight countries, including research institutes, technology providers, ministries, and law enforcement agencies. The project with a 42-month duration started with a total budget of EUR 6.7 million. Of this amount EUR 630’000 is provided for UZH.
The emerging applications of cryptocurrencies and the quickly evolving technological development of cross-border transactions create significant challenges for the Law-enforcement agencies (LEAs).
The project aims to equip LEAs with transparent and AI-enhanced tools to support investigations into illicit activities related to cryptocurrencies. In addition, by providing future recommendations for regulatory and policy measures, the project will contribute to harmonization.
“Combating CRYPTO-currency-Facilitated Crime and Terrorism with Interoperable, Trustworthy, AI Enhanced, Collaborative Tools, Improved Information Sharing, Operations and Training for LEAs” aims to confront challenges that hinder investigations, including darknet marketplaces, TOR, mixers, decentralized exchanges, and privacy coins. The project marks a milestone in Europe’s collective fight against cryptocurrency-facilitated crimes.
