Re-Discover Your T1D Self-Management!
Motivation: Managing Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is a constant balancing act, of different factors like blood glucose levels, insulin, food intake, stress, and more. With the increased availability of personal health data from wearables, individuals have access to vast amounts of data - yet making sense of it all can be overwhelming. With this project we aim to empower and re-engage individuals with T1D feeling a bit overwhelmed with the ocean of data they need to make sense of.
Problem: Individuals with T1D need to develop personalized self-management routines over time. However once established given everyday life changes and different contexts diabetes management involves continuous learning and re-learning of self-management. As technology advances and data complexity increases, it becomes even more challenging to integrate new insights into existing routines. This can result in individuals feeling overwhelmed by the complexity of self-management and having a hard time to re-engage with their diabetes management.
Goal: This project aims to develop an application that supports individuals in re-learning and re-engagement with their diabetes management in a personalized way. Our application will provide simple, accessible starting points to facilitate re-engagement and help individuals navigate the complexities of their personal health data. Our goal is to create an interactive, user-centered system that reduces cognitive burden, and fosters sustained engagement in self-management.
Approach: Through participatory design, we collaborate directly with individuals with T1D to develop a solution that is personalized, intuitive, and aligned with their real-world needs. We will conduct interviews on barriers and facilitators to engagement and design an application targeted at supporting individuals in reconnecting with their self-management practices.
