Nimra presented in the Data Protection Week 2025

Nimra presented in the Data Protection Week, where she discussed key challenges in designing technology for vulnerable populations. Her talk focused on ethical considerations, data privacy, and the complexities of ensuring digital safety for individuals facing gender-based violence and forced marriage.

A key part of the discussion centered on the values of a researcher and the tradeoffs between gathering sensitive demographic data for research versus prioritizing safety. Nimra explored the challenges of either collecting such data—risking potential harm—or not collecting it and facing demands for more data. She emphasized the necessity of balancing these concerns, advocating for a design justice approach that prioritizes ethical responsibility while recognizing the need for thoughtful, context-sensitive data collection.
