Environmental Informatics Students' Award for IFI Master students

Stefan Badertscher and David Oertle won the 2nd prize of the Environmental Informatics Students' Award 2013 for their development of a system supporting company-internal cap-and-trade of CO2 emission permits. The system provides a platform for internal markets, e.g. for the CO2 emissions of business trips or for using the parking lots of a company. Emissions of planned trips are calculated automatically and access to the market is provided by a web application. By internal cap and trade, an organization can efficiently limit CO2 emissions or other environmental impacts.

The Environmental Informatics Students' Prize is awarded every year at EnviroInfo, the annual conference on Environmental Informatics. The 27th EnviroInfo took place at the University in Hamburg. The prize is sponsored by the German Informatics Society (GI) and the Institute for Environmental Informatics GmbH.

The Masters' theses of the winners were written in the Informatics and Sustainability Research (ISR) group of IFI and supervised by Prof. Lorenz Hilty in cooperation with Prof. Marc Chesney from the Department of Banking and Finance (IBF).
