MindfulPacer: Smartwatch-based activity pacing support

MindfulPacer is a new smartwatch and smartphone app that helps people with Long COVID and ME/CFS pace their daily activities using personalized biometric limits, real-time notifications, and a reflection journal.

Congratulations to senior researcher André Meyer and his team on the successful launch of the MindfulPacer app. MindfulPacer, developed at IfI, lets patients define personal biometric thresholds (such as heart rate or steps) and delivers notifications when those limits are exceeded for a chosen time interval – prompting a short check-in on current activity and energy use.

Thanks to MindfulPacer, patients can balance their activity and rest, helping themselves without having to keep track of a handwritten diary of sleep, heart rate, physical activities, etc. Over time, built-in analytics help users spot patterns that may drain energy and adjust routines accordingly.

MindfulPacer is now available for iOS and AppleWatch, the Android version is still under development but open for volunteers to help with testing. The project was supported by the DIZH and the Long Covid community.
