Semantic Web Engineering, HS 11
Content
The lecture gives an introduction into the Semantic Web its standards and technologies. Based on an analysis of the problems of the current Web we introduce the data representation language RDF (Resource Description Framework), the modeling languages RDF Schema and OWL (Web Ontology Language), and the query language SPARQL. We continue with technologies and programming libraries that help developers to build applications based on these novel standards. We further highlight the possibilities of the Semantic Web technologies beside the Web in domains such as software engineering or the user’s desktop.
Teaching Goal
Deep knowledge of the Semantic Web, its standards, and technologies. The students will also learn how these technologies can be used beside the Web when data has to be exchanged between applications that were initially not designed to work in cooperation.
