Serge Demeyer is a professor at the University of Antwerp (Department of Mathematics and Computer Science) where he leads a research group investigating the theme of "Software Reengineering" (LORE - Lab On REengineering).
[Well, he is currently on sabbatical leave and will be staying in IFI for the coming months]
His main research interest concerns software engineering (more precisely, reengineering in an object-oriented context) but due to historical reasons he maintains a heavy interest in hypermedia systems as well.
[This fits nicely in the research interests of SEAL; the official host for this sabbatical leave. But Serge is certainly interested to hear what other research groups are doing as well; please talk to him if you meet or otherwise pay him a visit in room BIN2D.03.]
He is an active member of the corresponding international research communities, serving in various conference organization and program committees.
[One of the upcoming events that he is helping to organize is the "Automated Software Engineering" conference ASE 2010 in Antwerp -- check out http://soft.vub.ac.be/ase2010/ ]
He has writen a book entitled "Object-Oriented Reengineering" en was one of the editors of the "Software Evolution" volume collecting chapters written by the leading European researchers in the field. He also authored a considerable amount of peer reviewed articles, some of them in highly respected scientific journals.
[... well, and the plan is to use the sabbatical to extend that list with a respectable number of new and exciting papers !]
Research Methods
I will be teaching a ph.d. seminar on "Research Methods in Computer Science".
