Tackling a health epidemic with an e-health application in Lesotho
Abstract
In this master project you will support a multi-disciplinary project to tackle the neglected non-communicable disease epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa. You will help developing an e-health application suitable to support laypeople and other stakeholders to improve health and well-being of people suffering from NCDs in Lesotho. For this, you will work with different stakeholders in the project and other students (e.g., master's project).
Goals of the Project
The goal of this master project is to develop a running prototype of an e-health application for the ComBaCaL (Community Based chronic disease Care Lesotho) project. In this project, you will:
- gain insight into existing design principles for e-health applications
- analyze the needs of relevant stakeholders (patients, lay health workers, nurses, district health authorities, and researchers) and their requirements of an e-health application
- develop and test different user scenarios
- develop and test a running prototype in close collaboration with a team of students from the National University of Lesotho and a local IT startup.
By participating in this innovative, cross-cultural project you will deepen your knowledge of e-health application development and foster your own personal growth while working in a resource-limited setting.
Requirements
For this master project, we are looking for:
- Motivated students with programming skills
- Interest in e-health and cross-cultural collaboration
- Knowledge in computer supported cooperative work (CSCW), human-computer interaction (HCI) and/or people-oriented computing (POC) are very helpful
- Experience in developing with Java Script
- Strong programming skills
