Bachelor's and Master's Theses

Students have the opportunity to write their bachelor's or master's theses at the HISE group. We require a strong interest in topics relevant to our research areas and expect students to have prior knowledge of Information Systems.

Theses are generally linked to ongoing research topics and projects within the research group. Students receive supervision and gain insights into the group's academic research activities.

Academic Requirements

All theses must combine a thorough review and critical engagement with relevant scientific literature with a substantial empirical and/or design science component. We expect students to familiarize themselves with established academic standards and good scientific practices and to apply these throughout the research process.

Theses in Collaboration with Practice Partners

We generally welcome theses conducted in collaboration with external organizations or industry partners. However, these theses must meet the same academic standards and requirements as any other thesis supervised by our research group. In particular, a thesis must address a scientifically relevant research question and include both a solid theoretical foundation and a substantial empirical and/or design science component. Students are responsible for coordinating with their practice partners, managing relevant stakeholders within the organization, and ensuring that organizational expectations do not compromise the academic quality or independence of their research.

We regularly advertise available topics for bachelor's and master's theses on our website. Applications are only accepted for currently advertised topics. If no thesis topics are listed on our website, this means that we currently have no open positions for theses.
