Human-centered Information Systems Engineering

Welcome to the homepage of HISE

The HISE research group is dedicated to shaping the future of work in an increasingly digital and AI-augmented world. We believe that information systems should not replace human intelligence, but support, extend, and responsibly orchestrate human collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving.

Our mission is to design socio-technical systems that enable meaningful, effective, and sustainable forms of human–machine collaboration. Grounded in human-centered and design-oriented Information Systems research, we study how people, technologies, and organizations interact—and translate these insights into innovative solutions for real-world challenges. By combining rigorous research with practical relevance, we aim to contribute to a future in which AI serves human values, collective intelligence, and societal well-being.

This vision is tightly interwoven with our teaching. We invite students to actively engage with contemporary challenges of digital and AI-enabled work and to become thoughtful designers of socio-technical systems. We emphasize hands-on, problem-oriented learning that connects conceptual foundations with practical design methods. Our teaching aims to equip students with the analytical, methodological, and critical skills needed to responsibly shape information systems in complex organizational and societal contexts—and to actively participate in the future of human–AI collaboration.
