Address: Prof. Dr. Dan Olteanu, Department of Informatics, University of Zurich, Room AND 2.68, Andreasstrasse 15, 8050 Zurich, Switzerland. Email: olteanu@ifi.uzh.ch

I am a chair (full) professor of computer science and the head of the DaST (Data Systems and Theory) group at the Department of Informatics, University of Zurich. [Biography]

I spend my time understanding computational challenges on data processing and designing simple and scalable solutions towards these challenges. My theoretical research includes the development of novel data processing algorithms and of data processing languages along with the analysis of their complexities. My systems research is on building data systems in academia and industry based on well-understood theory.

My contributions are on:  adaptive query processing, query optimisation and in particular cardinality estimation, output-sensitive evaluation of conjunctive regular path queries, machine learning over relational data, incremental maintenance for database and machine learning, factorised databases, incomplete information and probabilistic databases, XML query processing, and the commercial systems LogicBlox and RelationalAI.

Research publications: local, DBLP and Google Scholar

I am the PC Chair of ACM PODS 2027. I have previously chaired the PC of ICDT 2022 and vice-chaired the PC of ACM SIGMOD 2017. I am a member of the Executive Committees of ACM PODS (since March 2025) and ICDT (since March 2020). I was the chair of the ICDT Executive Committee (or Council) from mid 2022 to mid 2025.
