RE@40 Seminar: Situation plan of venue

What to pay for and how to pay

Seminar participants have paid their accommodation, all meals, break refreshments, and the banquet with their registration. Accompanying persons have to pay for all their meals and drinks. Breakfast is included in the room rate. There is a café onsite serving a limited choice of hot and cold dishes.

At lunches and dinners, water is free. All other beverages must be paid, either directly to the service staff or by putting it on your room. You will then pay when checking out.

In the evening, you may order drinks in the Klostercafé or use the self-service in the Abbot's Cellar. In the latter case, you have to fill a sheet stating your name, room number and drink(s) taken.

The venue accepts cash in Swiss Francs or credit cards. There is no ATM at the venue. The nearest ATMs are in Baar at the train station or in Hausen am Albis. We recommend to buy some cash from an ATM at the airport.

Climate

We had a (unusual) inflow of polar air in the week before the seminar. By Saturday April 22, things should return to normal. From Sat to Tue, we expect convenient weather conditions with temperatures around 11-17° C during the day and 2-6° C in the night, which is normal for the season. From Wed to Fri, we might suffer another burst of polar air which could drive temperature down to 5-8° C during the day and 0° C at night.

Social Afternoon and banquet

On Wednesday afternoon we will have a bus that brings us to Einsiedeln, where we will have a guided tour to the famous baroque monastery. After the tour, we will return to Kappel for the banquet.

The seminar banquet will be held at the seminar venue. Additional banquet tickets can be bought onsite.

Hiking / Jogging

The seminar hotel provides a leaflet describing a one-hour round-trip hike from the monastery and back.

Excursions

Places of interest which are not too far from Kappel are

  • Zurich
  • Lake Zurich
  • Lucerne
  • Lake Lucerne
  • Mount Rigi

A nice day trip combines Mount Rigi and Lake Lucerne:  is take the bus to Baar, change to a train to Arth-Goldau, go up to Mount Rigi with a cogwheel railway, decend with another cogwheel railway to Vitznau at Lake Lucerne, take a boat to Lucerne and return by train/bus from Lucerne via Baar.

Another worthwhile trip explores Lake Lucerne in its entirety: go by Bus/train to Flüelen. There, catch the paddle steamer "Stadt Luzern" which departs at 14:00 from Flüelen and let the steamer carry you over the lake to Lucerne where it arrives at 16:47.

Sechseläuten in Zurich

On Monday April 24 there is an important local public holiday in Zurich, the so-called Sechseläuten. In the afternoon shops will be closed and there will be no tram traffic in the inner city. There will be a big parade of the members of  guilds in historic costumes. At 18:00 a strawman, dressed as a snowman (and filled with fireworks), mounted on a pile of firewood, will be burnt on the plaza adjacent to Bellevue by the lake.

On Sunday April 23 afternoon, there will be a parade of kids, also in historic costumes. During this parade, there will be no tram traffic in the inner city. Check-out the online timetable before traveling by tram on Sun and Mon afternoon.
