Teaching Diploma for Upper Secondary Schools

The teaching diploma program provides a pedagogical/didactic education that complements the Master's degree. You can start the training at the earliest when entering the Master's level.

The teaching diploma entitles you to teach at a secondary school. You can acquire the "Teaching Diploma for Matura schools" for one or two subjects.

This training is offered by the Institut für Erziehungswissenschaft (Institute of Educational Science) of the University of Zurich.

Informatics as the first teaching subject

To teach Informatics as the first subject in combination with a second subject you need a Master's degree in Informatics.

Studies for the second teaching subject must comprise of at least 90 ECTS credits. In order to fulfill these requirements, the following combinations are suggested:

  • Bachelor: Major in Informatics with Natural Sciences (120 ECTS credits) with a minor at the Faculty of Science (60 ECTS credits)
  • Master: Any major study program in Informatics (90 ECTS credits) with a consecutive minor at the Faculty of Science (30 ECTS credits)

To teach Informatics as a secondary subject you need 90 ECTS credits in Informatics.

The subject Informatics/Computer Science is currently a "supplementary subject" at secondary schools in the canton of Zurich. It is chosen by students who are interested in this topic.
