Digital Companion – What happens if you introduce LLMs into obesity treatment?

Description

In the Digital Companion project, we aim to develop an integrated system that closes the loop between obesity consultations. The Digital Companion helps the doctor and patient to collaboratively develop a treatment plan, supports the patient between the consultations in adhering to the treatment plan, and feeds back this data into the next consultation. During that time, an LLM-based chatbot supports the patient through guidance, reminders, and persuasion. This closed loop will empower the patient and doctor to personalize the treatment plan leading to better adherence and, in the end, better health outcomes.

We are looking for motivated students to investigate the effect of a prototype on the patient's motivation and ability to follow their treatment plans and on the collaboration in the consultation between the doctors and patients. In this thesis, you will support the project team in the evaluation in Spring 2024 and analyze the gathered data to identify effects and potentials to further develop the digital companion. Students are required to be fluent in (Swiss-) German, as the evaluation includes interaction with doctors and patients.
