Short biography

Aleksandra has joined Social Computing Group as a postdoctoral researcher in September 2020.

 

She holds a PhD in social sciences from the University of Bern where she has defended her dissertation titled “Political polarisation on social media in different national contexts” in May 2020. Aleksandra also holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from Central European University (Budapest) and a BA in Asian Studies from Higher School of Economics (Moscow).

 

In her research, Aleksandra employs computational methods to examine various aspects of political communication on social media, with a particular focus on polarization, authoritarian regimes and far-right groups. In addition, she is interested in algorithmic biases in web search. Examples of her work include research on far-right communities on Telegram, comparative analysis of political polarization on Twittersocial media-based polarization in Russia, and the distribution of information related to COVID-19 in web search results.
