Description

As a part of project Government as a Platform we offer a master thesis, which will invesitgate the question of orchestrating stakeholders in crisis situations through digital platforms in the canton of Zurich. The project aims to create an 'orchestration framework' for the public administration of the Canton of Zurich to handle crisis situations such as the current reception and integration of refugees from Ukraine in a more efficient and resilient manner. This is done based on the concept known as 'Government as a Platform.' The orchestration framework will help to coordinate efforts of the canton and external providers (civil society and private sector actors), improve their processes, and make a digital platform solution for stakeholders possible.

Goals

You will be involved in at least one of the following activities, depending on your skills:

  • conducting and analyzing interviews with various involved stakeholders (incl. refugees, private and public sector, NGOs)
  • media and social media analysis 
  • analysis of digital platforms, technical documentation, platform data

The bachelor and master theses or master projects will be conducted as part of the studies offered at the UZH. Involved students will receive ECTS points in accordance with their study program. The task will be tailored to the scope and the type of the work (master thesis). For Ukrainian students we will be able to tailor the task according to the necessary study regulations.

Requirements

For this thesis, we are looking for students with the following profile:

  • ongoing bachelor and master studies of any discipline related to the activities above
  • interest in writing a master thesis, starting as soon as possible
  • the working level of English; knowledge of German, Ukrainian, Russian, is beneficial but not mandatory
  • good communication skills.

Skills or interest in at least one of the following areas:

  • qualitative research
  • social computing, data science
  • computer science, information systems, business informatics

Note: The preference will be given to students from Ukraine, who are currently in Switzerland because of the war in Ukraine.
