Peter Stucki received his degrees from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zürich, and the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London. He joined the IBM Zürich Research Laboratory (Rüschlikon) in 1967, where he held various staff research positions in the areas of digital image processing and documentation systems. In 1979 Peter Stucki was appointed Manager of the Advanced Computer Application Development Project. During his time in industry, he had international assignments to the IBM Germany Research and Development Laboratory in Böblingen (1974) and to the IBM Research Laboratory in San Jose, California (1975-1976).
Dr. Stucki became Full-Professor of Computer Science at the University of Zurich in 1985 and head of the MultiMedia Laboratory at the Department of Computer Science. His current teaching and research activities comprise the areas of multimedia, scientific visualization, virtual reality and open learning. In 1997, Stucki spent parts of his sabbatical at the Advanced Telecommunications Research (ATR) Laboratories, Kyoto, Japan and at the International Computer Science Institute (ICSI), University of California at Berkeley, USA.
Peter Stucki is the author of over one-hundred-fifty scientific and technical publications and the editor of several books. He received a best paper award from the Society for Information Display and several IBM outstanding innovation and invention achievement awards. From 1998 - 2002 Prof. Stucki was Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Business Administration and Information Technology at the University of Zurich.
Peter Stucki is past president president of the Swiss Virtual Campus (SVC) steering committee and president of the board of the Virtuelle Hochschule Bayern (VHB). He also assumes a number of other honorary functions.
