40 Years of IFI

Interested researchers, students, colleagues, fellows, and the public are invited to attend the 40th birthday celebration of the IFI, Department of Informatics of the University of Zurich, UZH.

The detailed birthday program will appear here in the next couple of weeks. But to feed you with a glimpse of IFI plans, we do plan for a combination of keynotes, panels, poster exhibitions, leasure activities, and an evening party!

On September 24, 2010 we will celebrate IfI's 40th Anniversary with an exciting full-day symposium:

The Future of Informatics

The goal of the symposium will be to explore the future of Informatics:

  • Where does our discipline go in research and teaching?
  • Where will we stand in ten years?
  • What are the implications for academic departments, the industry, and the society in general?
  • What is the future of the software industry?

We'll have world-class speakers, three of them already confirmed:

* Manfred Broy (TU Munich)
 on the Future of Informatics Departments and Research

* Michael Cusumano (MIT)
 on the Future of the Informatics Industry

* Jeannette Wing (CMU / NSF)
 on the Future of Computational Thinking in Society

* A high-level Manager
 on the Future of Software Projects in Industry

 Manfred Broy (TU Munich)
 on the Future of Informatics Departments and Research

Michael Cusumano (MIT)
on the Future of the Informatics Industry

Jeannette Wing (CMU / NSF)
on the Future of Computational Thinking in Society

The symposium's program will include keynote talks, succinct presentations of cutting-edge research, and ample opportunities for discussion making this symposium not just an anniversary celebration, but an exciting event with inspiring discussions and insights.
