Practical Applications of Controlled Natural Languages
14th International Conference of Applications of Prolog INAP'2001
University of Tokyo
Japan
Controlled natural languages, specifically controlled English, are increasingly replacing logic and other formal languages in practical applications. Examples are
Computer Processable English CPE (Pulman et al.) that has been used for specifications and for planning.PROSPER (Holt, Klein et al.) that uses controlled English for the verification of hardware designs.
Attempto Controlled English ACE (Fuchs et al.) that has been used for software specifications and will be used for the description of medical diseases, for web design, for program synthesis and for teaching logic.
The aim of the workshop is first to further the contact between groups working in this field, second to exchange ideas concerning language design and implementation, third to report on practical applications, and fourth to assess the viability of controlled languages for various application domains.
Please note that the main focus of this workshop should be on applications other than technical documentation, as the latter is already covered by the series of workshops CLAW that took place in 1996, 1998, and 2000.
PACONAL'2001 is a workshop and aims at promoting the exchange of ideas through extensive discussion. Topics of interest are all aspects of the practical application of controlled natural languages. Submitted papers will be available on the web in advance to allow participants to prepare their comments.
Submissions are not limited to traditional research papers. Position and survey papers pertaining to the workshop objectives are particularly encouraged, as well as promising preliminary research. Also accepted are industrial reports and demonstrations of prototypes.
Submission and review of papers will be through the Internet. Draft papers (in PDF format only) should be mailed to Norbert E. Fuchs at fuchs@ifi.unizh.ch before 20 June 2001.
Accepted submissions will be published on the web and included in the workshop proceedings.
Paper limits are: full papers with a maximum of 8 pages, position papers with a maximum of 2 pages, and research abstracts with a maximum of 1 page. For industrial reports and demonstrations authors should submit a detailed description of the application, including aims, functionality and requirements.
Please include a cover page including full contact details, a short abstract, and a list of keywords.
Authors who submit papers to the workshop are expected to help with the reviewing of papers submitted by other individuals.
PACONAL'2001 will be held during INAP'2001 at the University of Tokyo, Sanjo Conference Hall, Japan from 20 to 22 October 2001.
