Methods for Human-Centered Computing

Course description

Computers and computational technology have a profound impact on people's lives and human society; the human condition in term shapes and influences the evolution of computational technology. This course considers interplay between technology and humans through the lens of technology design, use, and appropriation. It introduces key HCI and interdisciplinary theory, and advanced methods for data collection, design, evaluation, and analysis.

Classwork and practical exercises emphasize understanding how to select and employ methods appropriately and with rigor. Areas of focus will include field study methods, study design, technology deployment, and qualitative data analysis. The course will develop practical skills as well as a familiarity with research in the field of Human-Centered Computing.
