Research

At ISR, Matthias’ research activities focus on the causes and socio-economic impacts of food price volatilities, their implications on food security and sustainable development. In this context, he is particularly interested in the analysis of simple and cost effective solutions that help limiting volatilities for example through reducing post-harvest losses. Matthias is the Principal Investigator of the project Food Price Volatility: Political Causes, Effects on Hunger and Poverty, Sustainable Solutions. The project is funded by the Swiss Network for International Studies. Matthias’ general research interest also includes research on financial markets, with agricultural commodities being a focal point.
