Giovanna Sissa was a PhD student in Informatics at the University of Milan, under the co-supervision of Prof. Lorenz Hilty. She graduated in 2014.
Giovanna Sissa, born in 1953 in Genoa (Italy), studied Physics at the University of Genoa, where she received her Degree in 1978.
She was consultant from 1987 to 1992 for the Ansaldo Trasporti Group, as scientific coordinator in development of intelligent new-generation traffic control systems for underground and railways. Member of the "Advanced Technology Group" in Pittsburgh USA , the international observatory about Technology trends of the Ansaldo Signalling Group, in 1991-92
Involved in identification of emerging software technologies and technological trends in Informatics, she was consultant for several Public Administrations and industries.
Contract Professor of the University of Genoa, Department in Computer Science, in the Course of Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge Base systems from 1998 to 2000.
In 2000 she founded and headed, till 2009, the Osservatorio Tecnologico of the Italian Ministry of Education, based in Genoa in cooperation with the University of Genoa, an experimental service for schools related to the widespread issue of ICT in education. In this role she was engaged on the environmental aspect of ICT and in research activities related to technological obsolescence and the role of software.
Independent expert for the Information Society implementation into the Community Support Framework 2000-2006, at the Ministry of Economic Development - Department for policies of Community Structural Funds Region (2004-2007).
As an independent expert, in 2009 and 2010, she participated at the evaluation activities of the ICT innovation regional plan for Industry at Piemonte Region, Turin (Italy).
In 2011 she returned to her studies within a PhD in Informatics at Milan University in the field of ICT and sustainability.
