Thomas Scharrenbach received his Vordiplom (~BSc) in computer science from the University of Bonn in 2001 where he studied computer science with a focus on computer vision, pattern recognition and photogrammetry. In 2003 he changed to RWTH Aachen with specialization in speech recognition and natural language processing. He received his Diploma (~MSc) from RWTH Aachen in 2005. Afterwards he worked In the area of minerals processing and recycling at RWTH Aachen where he performed research on multi-sensor-sorting of resources. From 2008 to 2011 he was a PhD student at the Swiss Federal Institute for forest, snow and landscape research (WSL). During that time he was associated with the Dynamic and Distributed Information Systems (DDIS) group headed by Prof. Abraham Bernstein at the University of Zurich (UZH) which he joined in early 2011 as a postdoctoral researcher.

Thomas Scharrenbach studierte Informatik an der Universität Bonn, von der er im Jahr 2001 sein Vordiplom erhielt. Seine Fachgebiete dort waren Bildverstehen, Mustererkennung und Photogrammetrie. Im Jahr 2003 wechselte er an die RWTH Aachen und legte seinen Fokus auf Spracherkennung und -übersetzung. Er erhielt das Diplom in Informatik von der RWTH Aachen im Jahr 2005. Anschliessend arbeitete er in der Aufbereitung mineralischer Rohstoffe and Recyclinc von Sekundärrohstoffen an der RWTH Aachen wo er Forschungsprojekte in der Multi-Sensor-Sortierung von Stoffströmen durchführte. Von 2008 bis 2011 war er Doktorand an der Eidgenössischen Forschungsanstalt für Wald, Schnee und Landschaft WSL. In dieser Zeit war er mit der ForschungsgruppeDynamic and Distributed Information Systems (DDIS) an der Universität of Zürich (UZH) verbunden, welche von Prof. Abraham Bernstein geleitet wird. Seit anfangs arbeitet Herr Scharrenbach in der DDSI Gruppe als Postdoc.
